Dogdrop Debuts Store-Within-a-Store Daycare Model, Opening New Growth Channel for Independent Pet Retailers

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WILMINGTON, DE — June 18, 2026 — Dogdrop, the membership-based dog daycare franchise behind the quick-stop daycare model, today announced the opening of its first store-within-a-store location inside Riverfront Pets, the award-winning independent pet retailer at 311 Justison Street in Wilmington.
The launch marks a new format for the dog daycare category: a fully programmed, membership-based daycare built inside an existing pet retail business rather than a traditional standalone facility. Dogdrop is not aware of any other dog daycare franchise that has launched a fully programmed daycare inside an independent pet retailer.
"We built Dogdrop around a simple belief: the future of dog daycare is not one-size-fits-all, 7,000-square-foot warehouses on the edge of town," said Shaina Denny, CEO and co-founder of Dogdrop. "Dog parents need care that fits into their actual lives. This launch proves that with the right operating system, training model, and safety standards, daycare can live inside the neighborhood businesses families already know and trust."
A New Path to Scale for Dog Daycare
For decades, the dog daycare category has largely followed one model: lease a large standalone facility, invest heavily in build-out, and wait for the local market to grow into the space. That approach can work, but it has also limited where daycare can exist. Dense neighborhoods, mixed-use districts, smaller communities, and independent pet businesses often have real demand, but not the square footage or capital profile required by legacy daycare models.
Dogdrop was built for that gap.
The company's small-footprint, quick-stop daycare model is designed to operate efficiently in compact, high-convenience environments. Its open-play, no-reservation experience gives dog parents flexible access to daycare in 30-minute increments, while its proprietary operating platform supports utilization monitoring, membership management, customer communication, billing, and multi-location operations.
That infrastructure allows Dogdrop to bring a consistent daycare experience into more flexible footprints, including trusted pet retailers, groomers, trainers, and veterinary-adjacent businesses.
For independent pet retailers, the format creates a new way to expand revenue per square foot, deepen customer relationships, and add a recurring membership service without building a standalone daycare facility from scratch. For Dogdrop, the Wilmington launch opens a new expansion channel alongside traditional franchise locations.
Bringing Full Dogdrop Programming Into Riverfront Pets
The Wilmington integration brings full Dogdrop programming into the Riverfront Pets footprint, including membership tiers, day passes, play pass packs, and the Member Drop-In Rate. The location is operated by a trained Dogdrop team using the same safety, behavior, play group, and customer experience standards used across Dogdrop locations.
The result is a daycare experience that feels fully integrated into Riverfront Pets while still operating under Dogdrop's operating system, training model, and care standards.
"Riverfront Pets has always been built around trust," said Rekha Thadkapalli, owner of Riverfront Pets and Dogdrop Wilmington franchisee. "Our customers already come to us for grooming, training, supplies, and guidance. Adding Dogdrop allows us to serve them in an even deeper way, with a daycare model that brings professional standards, team training, technology, and membership infrastructure into the business we've already built."
"It gives our customers more convenience and gives our business a new recurring revenue engine inside the same footprint," Thadkapalli added.
Maintaining One Standard of Care Across Every Format
While the Wilmington location introduces a new physical format for Dogdrop, the company's operating standards remain the same across every location. Each Dogdrop daycare, whether standalone or embedded inside an existing pet business, is built around the same safety protocols, team training, behavior evaluation process, play group standards, customer communication systems, and proprietary operating platform.
Dogdrop's model is designed to separate the physical footprint from the quality standard. The store-within-a-store format allows daycare to live inside trusted neighborhood businesses, but the experience is still governed by Dogdrop's training, technology, membership structure, and care requirements.
Before launching inside a partner location, Dogdrop evaluates the space, operating flow, staffing plan, dog capacity, safety requirements, and customer experience to ensure the location can support the brand's standards. Once open, each location is supported through Dogdrop's centralized systems, ongoing training, software tools, and operational oversight.
"The goal is not to put Dogdrop into every pet business that has extra square footage," said Denny. "The goal is to bring Dogdrop into the right environments, with the right operators, where we can maintain the same standard of care our members expect. The format can be flexible, but the operating standard is not."
A Franchisee Building Both Sides of the Partnership
The Wilmington store-within-a-store is owned and operated by Thadkapalli, the Dogdrop franchisee developing the Wilmington market and the owner of Riverfront Pets, which she acquired in October 2025.
Thadkapalli represents a new kind of multi-format pet care operator: a franchisee with deep community roots who has chosen to integrate Dogdrop daycare directly into the pet retail business she already runs.
Riverfront Pets, founded in 2017, has spent years building one of Wilmington's most trusted pet businesses through grooming, training, and curated retail. On May 15, 2026, Mayor John C. Carney personally presented Riverfront Pets with an Office of the Mayor Tribute recognizing the business for its dedication to Wilmington's pet community and its meaningful impact on the city's small business landscape.
The partnership is especially meaningful because Riverfront Pets is not a new entrant trying to buy attention in the market. It is an established local business with existing trust, customer relationships, and a track record of serving Wilmington's pet community.
What Comes Next
The Wilmington launch will serve as Dogdrop's first operating template for future store-within-a-store partnerships with independent pet retailers, groomers, trainers, and veterinary practices nationwide.
The company will continue to grow through standalone franchise locations while selectively expanding this embedded format with operators who already have strong local trust, existing pet parent relationships, and underutilized space that can support daycare programming.
Dogdrop has additional units under development in Wilmington, Jersey City, Nashville, and across its existing markets in Los Angeles, Denver, Anaheim, Fort Lauderdale, and Austin.
"This is not just a new location for Dogdrop," said Denny. "It is a new way to think about how dog daycare can scale. The future of pet care will not be built only in big boxes. It will be built inside the places pet parents already go, by operators who already understand their communities."
